Hey there!

If you’re reading this, welcome to my Substack! Over the course of the past two years, I have been tying my knots into the tapestry of the modern world with ancient threads. The work of the Greeks and Romans has shaped our world in ways most do not immediately recognize, and I feel that my purpose in life is to make those details more apparent. Once a week I publish something about classical literature, translating a modern song’s lyrics into an ancient tongue, or giving an ancient perspective on a newsworthy topic.

Who is this meant for?

You, dear reader, may find yourself in a number of categories. Linguists, historians, poets, and musicians all find themselves among the ranks of my subscriber base. That being said, I introduce more complex concepts in simple, idiomatic English so anyone may enjoy and learn from these essays.

Why should I subscribe?

Because it’s free, it’s fun, it’s educational, and it helps preserve the memory of days gone by.

My book rating scale follows the Michelin Star philosophy of evaluation, not out of pretentiousness, but rather because one review a month is not frequent enough to include books I did not enjoy. One-star represents a book that deserves recognition if it happens to be seen in a used bookstore or at a tag sale. Two-star books are those that should actively be sought out and ordered online. Three-star books are those that belong on wishlists if they aren’t already on one’s bookshelf, and indicates a slight bit of shame and regret that I hadn’t prioritized it earlier in my reading schedule.
